How to maintain ironwood furniture

The core of the maintenance of ironwood furniture is to maintain stable humidity of wood, avoid physical damage, and slow down natural aging, which needs to be combined with its "hard but afraid of dryness and moisture" characteristics of targeted care, which can be divided into three categories: daily maintenance, seasonal protection, and special situation treatment, the following are detailed methods:
1. Daily maintenance: basic protection to reduce wear
Daily care is the key to extending the life of ironwood furniture, focusing on "scratch resistance, stain resistance, moisture control", simple operation but long-term adherence:
Avoid physical damage and reduce surface wear
ironwood has high hardness but if the surface is frictioned for a long time, it will still cause scratches, so it is necessary to put anti-slip mats (such as silicone mats, felt pads) on the bottom of the furniture when placing it to avoid scratching the ground or the bottom of the furniture when dragging;
When placing items (such as tableware and ornaments), it is necessary to put insulation mats, placemats or soft cloths on the contact surface, especially avoid placing hot pots and water glasses directly to prevent "white marks" from being scalded at high temperatures;
When cleaning, wipe with a soft rag (such as cotton rag, microfiber cloth) and avoid using rough tools such as wire balls and stiff brushes to prevent scratching the wood surface.
Clean in time to prevent stains from penetrating
Wipe the daily dust lightly with a dry rag; If there is a liquid (such as water or oil stains) spilled on the surface, it should be blotted immediately with a dry cloth, then wiped the stain with a wet rag (wrung until it is half dry), and finally wiped dry with a dry cloth to prevent the liquid from staying for a long time and penetrating the wood, forming a mark that is difficult to remove;
If there are stubborn stains (such as oil stains and sauces), you can gently wipe the rag with a small amount of neutral detergent (such as mild dish soap), and do not use acidic and alkaline detergents (such as toilet cleaner, bleach) to avoid damaging the natural oil on the surface of the wood and causing cracking.
Regular oil replenishment to maintain wood toughness
Ironwood furniture needs to be replenished regularly to prevent the wood from drying out and cracking due to "lack of water", and it is recommended to do "oil protection care" every 3-6 months:
(1) Wipe the dust on the surface of the furniture with a dry cloth first;
(2) Take an appropriate amount of natural wood wax oil, beeswax or special solid wood maintenance oil (avoid using industrial engine oil and edible oil, the former has a peculiar smell, and the latter is easy to absorb dust), pour it on a rag and apply it evenly to the surface of the furniture;
(3) Wait for 10-15 minutes to allow the wood to fully absorb the grease, and then use a clean rag to wipe off the remaining oil slick on the surface to avoid grease accumulation and stickiness.
2. Seasonal protection: cope with temperature and humidity changes to prevent cracking and deformation
